Summer mode is in full swing in Sun Peaks and we’ve been enjoying all of the recreational activities that make our community special – hiking, mountain biking, golfing, events, and more. Spring and early summer delivered cooler temperatures and plenty of precipitation, however we too experienced the hotter than average temperatures that hit much of British Columbia over the past two weeks. Daytime temperatures in Sun Peaks reached low to mid-thirties. We’ve now entered a cooling trend, with daytime temperatures forecast in the high teens to mid-twenties (Celsius) for the next 10-14 days. For up-to-date weather visit the Sun Peaks weather page.
While we’ve been enjoying the mountain environment, we’re aware of the wildfire activity throughout the province and have teams who are monitoring the situation closely along with our local authorities. At this time, there are no significant wildfires of note in close proximity to Sun Peaks and we remain open for business. Alpine blossom season is on and the wildflowers are spectacular – there is plenty to be enjoyed here in Sun Peaks and we continue to welcome guests daily. We have only been slightly affected by smoke, which of course can change at a moment’s notice.
If at any time you are wondering about wildfire activity around Sun Peaks and if it might affect your upcoming visit, we encourage you to check out the following resources and to also check back to this page, which will be updated as needed.
Due to communities throughout the province (and Jasper) affected by wildfires and evacuations, we have welcomed guests to Sun Peaks this week who have been displaced and coach tours that have been rerouted. We remind everyone to be patient, courteous, and thoughtful with their interactions, as the reason a guest is here may not be simply for recreation.
Again, while there are no wildfires of note in proximity of or a threat to Sun Peaks at this time, this can change at a moment’s notice. Stay informed, check back to this page, and call if you have any questions – 250.578.6000.
